Masters Student Intern

About Me

I’m Katie Triniewski, a clinical counseling intern in my final year of Portland State University’s master’s in counseling program. My passion for mental health began as a combination of my personal therapy journey and my professional experiences working with K-12 and college students. I provide individual therapy to teens and adults ages 14 and older.

I especially enjoy working with folks who are LGBTQ+, disabled, and/or high school or college students. My interests include, but are not limited to: trauma and complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, disability identity, gender and sexuality, attachment patterns, and life transitions. I believe in therapy that is relational, holistic, trauma-informed, and considers the oppressive systems and structures of our society.

Therapeutic Approach

I believe strongly in the power of relationships and community in healing, as well as in connecting the body and the mind in ways that feel supportive to you. My approach to therapy is rooted in parts work, mindfulness, and somatics, but I draw from other techniques such as ACT, DBT, narrative therapy, and attachment theory.

I aim to create a welcoming, client-centered environment where you can explore your unique goals, whether that includes processing trauma, creating stronger relationships, living more aligned with your values, or something else entirely!

Credentials & Experience

I am currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from PSU. I also have certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and I recently completed my practicum experience at PSU’s Community Counseling Clinic. In addition to pursuing counseling, I have 15 years’ experience working in K-12 and higher education settings.

Outside the Office

When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, creative pursuits, spending time in nature, spontaneous road trips, and hanging out with my senior cat, Stash.

I am supervised by Jacque Dalton, PhD, NCC, LPC, CCTP-II
