The QT-BIPOC Therapists Rising Fellowship Program at PMHW aims to provide an inclusive and supportive learning environment for pre-licensed counseling, marriage and family therapy, and clinical social work associates, with a commitment of at least 16 months. Associates would have the opportunity to gain experience with both outpatient as well as intensive outpatient programs within a cohort-based training model. In addition, they will participate in specialized Gestalt experiential trainings that integrate the decolonization of therapy with contemporary relational Gestalt therapy concepts.
To ensure culturally responsive services, each associate will be paired with a supervisor who identifies as a member of our Communities of Color, or who has a demonstrated record of providing culturally specific services to these communities. Associates will be required to complete a minimum of ~22 clinical encounters per week (or 258 contacts per calendar quarter) with supervision. Integrated training, experiential learning, and supervision will be provided and funded by PMHW.
The program aligns with the Behavioral Health Workforce Initiative and its Clinical Supervision Program by providing new supervision opportunities to clinicians who have experience in delivering culturally and linguistically responsive care. It also provides training and supervision to associates that is rooted in health equity and culturally-based practices, addressing the diverse needs of BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals.

Program Description
The QT-BIPOC Therapists Rising Fellowship program offers advanced training for a select six associate therapists to acquire the necessary skills and experience to become licensed therapists. Each associate therapist will be paired with a BIPOC clinical supervisor who has completed all necessary state board qualifications, and/or has the necessary clinical experience that aligns with the associate’s specialization or specific licensure path. To ensure a well-rounded learning experience, associate therapists will participate in weekly individual clinical supervision, bi-weekly 2-hour group supervision, bi-weekly 2-hour Gestalt experiential training, and optional interdisciplinary 2-hour didactic seminars.
The bi-weekly in person Gestalt experiential training includes an introduction to the concepts of contemporary relational Gestalt therapy, facilitated triad work in real time with supervision from experienced trainers, and integrated decolonizing practices. Our hope is that through this training program, associates can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the wisdom they already bring to their encounters with clients and integrate the training concepts within their work. We aspire to broaden their perspective about how Gestalt therapy can be seen as a decolonized approach.
The program is also designed to help associates accrue all the required direct service and supervision hours needed for licensure. Associates will be able to access various pathways to other programs across the organization, such as our intensive outpatient program and our population-specific programs: AFFIRM and Florecer. Our interdisciplinary clinical environment values the humanity of both practitioners and clients alike. Associates will work in a supportive and collaborative environment that prioritizes the wellbeing of all involved.
