About Me
Hello! My name is Tiffany Nguyen, a Professional Counselor Associate, and I’m excited to start my counseling career with Portland Mental Health and Wellness! My passion for mental health began with my own healing journey as I navigated my own narratives around perfectionism, filial piety, and the complex intersectionality of being a Vietnamese American cis-woman. Because of this, I aspire to give back to help others in their journeys as well. This journey can feel very isolating and overwhelming at times and this is where I believe that therapy, whether individual or group therapy, can be an effective tool because there is something very powerful about knowing you are not alone and to be seen and acknowledged by another. I look forward to the opportunity to support you in whatever capacity feels right to you!
Therapeutic Approach
Through the use of person-centered therapy and counseling techniques that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive, I strive to create a safe counseling space where my clients feel welcomed so that they can get the most out of their counseling experience and achieve the growth, recovery, and/or support that they need in our time together. As a counselor, I walk alongside my clients and support them as needed through their journey to become their authentic selves. I believe that clients are the best authority over their experience and are capable of finding solutions to what ails them that align with their values and self-concepts. Therapy is not an easy journey and one that requires a strong and trusted therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist. Therefore, I strive to be transparent and open-minded in all of my approaches.
Credentials & Experience
I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern Oregon University. My professional experience includes practicum experience from my graduate program with student volunteers and my 9 month internship with Options for Southern Oregon’s Adult Outpatient team where I had a caseload of 25 clients ranging from ages 18-55+.
Outside the Office
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy reading, singing karaoke, and I’m a gamer! I love spending time with my family and friends and indulging in the latest food trends. Prior to this new career, I worked in early childhood education for 7 years and I have also taught English in Korea!
