Claire Weigand

Clinical Social Work Associate

Pronouns: She/Her

About Me

I’m Claire, a Clinical Social Work Associate with three years experience in supporting neurodiverse adults in navigating trauma, burnout, chronic illness, oppression and accompanying depression, gender and sexuality development, anxiety and exhaustion. I collaborate with clients on empowerment in a society that often tells us we are doing things wrong. I pursued social work as the path to becoming a therapist as I look beyond the individual to see how broader social forces impact mental health.

Therapeutic Approach

I support neurodiverse communication styles, individual ways of thinking, and all varieties of emotional expression in therapy. I use an attachment approach (focused on building rapport) instead of the blank slate therapist approach (the therapist does not share any personal details).

Our society teaches us to live in our heads, cut off from our hearts and bodies, so I use somatic modalities to help us rebalance and live in our full humanity. I find somatic modalities are part of the work to undo colonialism, to work towards justice, and to restore well-being through balancing thoughts, emotions, and sensations.

Outside the Office

I am a dragon of fun facts. I hoard interesting tidbits and randomly share them. Lake Superior is so cold that nothing rots in it; it’s too cold for the rot-causing organisms. Please tell me your fun facts!

I love being creative, reading, video games, and relaxing in a hammock.
