Marsha Cristales-Fontaine, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Pronouns: She, Her
I’m a multiracial, first generation Salvadoreña, currently able-bodied, a life-long learner, and transplant from Southern California. My passion for mental health work began early when exploring my own experiences with trauma, grief, urges, and behaviors. I am passionate about supporting women experiencing disordered eating/eating disorders and body image issues, in addition to experiencing the impacts of trauma and chronic stress. My hope is to support you in reclaiming your culture, community, and spirituality, in order to become your most liberated self.
Therapeutic Approach
My approach continues to evolve with every moment of unlearning and learning that relationships, books, workshops, and trainings provide, weather academic or “non- academic.” However, I always embrace non-pathologizing, Mujerista, Womanist, and liberation-based psychologies to support you in writing or rewriting what healing means to you now. I utilize integrative EMDR depending on where you are and where you hope to go during this chapter of your life. Through a relational lens, I aim to provide a space that supports nurturing trust in your innate wisdom, the therapeutic relationship, and in relationships beyond the therapy room, so you too can join the movement to challenge and dismantle systems of oppression for the next generation.
Credentials & Experience
I hold a Psychology degree from BIOLA University, and a dual Master of Science in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy / Counseling from the University of Phoenix. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington state. Throughout the years I have completed many courses, certifications, and trainings, but the most relevant to my work today are completing the Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing (EMDR) training along with various EMDR related courses with specific populations such as those experiencing eating disorders and body image, complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and dissociation with EMDRIA and The Institute for Creative Mindfulness. Additionally, I completed core coursework for eating disorders with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
Outside the Office
Outside of my clinical work, I am a mother who enjoys volunteering at my children’s schools for the Art literacy program and supporting and motivating students to prepare for Batalla (Oregon Battle of the Books in Spanish). I enjoy crocheting, listening to and analyzing lyrics in my favorite songs, caring for my house plants, spending time in nature with my family and friends, and so much more that you may learn during our work together.
