Heeseung Kang, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

I earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling in 1991 with a concentration in work with couples, families, and children. I have held many clinical positions since then providing psychotherapy to adults, children/adolescents, families, and couples.

I am skilled in treated the following issues, among others: emotional difficulties such as depression, anxiety, codependency; behavioral challenges; family dynamics; couples dynamics; work and school issues; grief and loss; and life transitions. Very commonly, patients have had histories of trauma, sometimes with severe and complicated presentations. I welcome both long-term and short-term work.

In addition, in 2008, I became a practitioner of Non-Violent Communication, a powerful communication model, which encourages a unique type of presence and connection with self and others. This type of presence minimizes any of my own human tendency, if any, toward personal opinion or judgment in my response to patients. This then allows for a higher degree of openness and support in the therapeutic relationship, which often leads to an uncommonly deep quality of connection.

Last but not least, I am bi-cultural Korean-American, and have a deep commitment to promoting cultural diversity and equity, both in the counseling profession, and in the world at large.
