Portland Mental Health & Wellness is a thriving private practice and training practice with three locations in SE and SW Portland, as well as one location in Salem. We are a collaboration of psychologists, psychiatric prescribers, counselors, marriage and family therapists and our trainees. Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for Outpatient Mental Health Services

Primary Function:
The Psychiatrist or PMHNP operates as part of the outpatient program within the practice, and provides medication management and psychotherapy at all PMHW office locations. They work with adolescents and adults who primarily present with depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and/or substance disorders, to help them manage their symptoms and improve their overall mental health and well-being. PMHW can accept patients with both commercial insurance and Medicaid.
In addition to providing direct care to individuals, psychiatric providers may also consult with other healthcare professionals and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care to patients with complex mental health needs. They may also provide education and support to families and caregivers of individuals with mental illness.
Clinical staff can expect a professional, collegial, and relational environment in which we strive to be collaborative, creative, and supportive across disciplines. We prioritize opportunities for formal and informal consultation and have administrative support systems in place that allow us to focus primarily on meeting with our patients.
Essential Functions:
- Diagnose and treat common psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions
- Develop treatment plans based on findings and in collaboration with the patients and their support system, when appropriate
- Psychopharmacologic management
- Care for and counsel patients with common identified chronic psychiatric conditions
- Monitor common health care problems and refer for specialized medical treatment as needed
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric-mental health education
- Update treatment plans, assessment updates, and testing as needed or as required
- Obtain releases necessary to collaborate with outside agencies involved in the care of the patient when appropriate
- Consult with other professionals when unusual or complex cases are encountered
- Participate in treatment team/staff conferences regarding diagnosis or treatment of difficult cases
- Facilitate a timely exchange of communication and information to ensure continuity of care
- Educate patients and family members about mental health conditions, preventive health measures, and treatment plans
- Monitor electronic calendar to keep informed of upcoming appointments, changes and cancellations
- Maintain clinic records in accordance with insurance regulations and established clinic policies and procedures
- Serve as the official Licensed Medical Provider and fulfill all associated obligations:
- LMP must review and approve, at least annually, the medical appropriateness of services and supports identified in the service plan for each individual receiving mental health services for one or more continuous years. The LMP may designate annual clinical oversight by documenting the designation to a specific licensed health care professional.
“Medically Appropriate” means services and medical supplies required for prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of a physical or behavioral health condition or injuries that are:
(a) Consistent with the symptoms of a health condition or treatment of a health condition;
(b) Appropriate with regard to standards of good health practice and generally recognized by the relevant scientific community and professional standards of care as effective;
(c) Not solely for the convenience of an individual or a provider of the service or medical supplies;
and
(d) The most cost effective of the alternative levels of medical services or medical supplies that can be safely provided to an individual. - Revenue Expectations: Full-time psychiatric providers are required to meet a minimum revenue expectation per 13 week calendar quarter, beginning their 2nd full quarter of employment.

Skills:
- Demonstrate an understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one’s training and discipline.
- Appropriately and effectively assess and treat behavioral and affective disorders, with an emphasis on relational and process intervention models.
- Assess risk for harm to self or others at intake as well as throughout the course of treatment.
- Maintain current and comprehensive clinical documentation compliant with Oregon Health Authority requirements.
- Coordination of care with multiple providers, both within the practice and at other facilities.
- Focus clinical practice on individuals, families, or populations across the life span at risk for developing and/or having a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders or mental health problems. Including the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.
- Provide consultation to healthcare providers and others to enhance quality and cost-effective services for patients and to effect change in organizational systems.
- Welcome and utilize feedback with interest and curiosity from peers, colleagues, managers and directors, as well as in supervision and consultation settings.
Abilities:
- Engage in ongoing training opportunities provided by Portland Mental Health & Wellness and elsewhere to improve skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, and engagement of psychotherapy and/or psychiatric services that emphasize the mission, vision and values of Portland Mental Health & Wellness.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member, and to communicate clearly, compassionately, and respectfully, with medical and mental health professionals, as well as with administrative support staff.
- Provide clinically sound treatment services based on patient needs and treatment plans.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the current DSM and ICD Codes
- Respond to a range of patient needs using differential diagnoses and treatment approaches.
- Demonstrate an understanding and abide by the regulations set forth by HIPAA.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing OR a doctoral degree in Medicine from an AMA accredited university.
- Licensed to practice in the State of Oregon with full prescriptive authority and DEA certificate in good standing.
- Preferred: two years experience working with adolescents and adults in outpatient private practice setting; demonstrated competence in assessment, diagnosis, medication evaluation and current, sound prescriptive practices.
