What Is IOP?

IOP is a structured level of care that includes multiple therapy sessions per week and group-based support. It’s designed for adults who need more support than weekly therapy, while allowing you to remain engaged in your everyday life. Care is provided by licensed clinicians using evidence-based, person-centered approaches.

IOP can be helpful when things feel overwhelming, when symptoms start to make everyday life harder, or when more consistent support is needed to stabilize and move forward.

What’s Included in Adult IOP

Group therapy is the primary focus of Adult IOP, supported by individual sessions and coordinated care. Groups are facilitated by licensed clinicians and provide a structured, supportive space to share experiences, build coping skills, receive feedback, and connect with others who understand what you’re going through.

Adult IOP commonly includes:

Group therapy three days per week, led by licensed clinicians
Weekly individual therapy with an assigned PMHW therapist
Medication management, when clinically appropriate
Care coordination support to help connect you with ongoing services and resources, particularly as you prepare to complete IOP

Care plans are personalized and adjusted over time to support progress and stability.

In-Person Adult IOP Time Commitment

In-person Adult IOP groups typically meet Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for three hours, either in the morning or afternoon, for a period of 12 – 14 weeks.
