My name is Nyliam Loyola Alonso (she/her), and I am a doctoral intern in Clinical Psychology. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Mental Health with a concentration in Social Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Albizu University in Mayagüez. Over the past four years,

I have provided therapy and psychological assessments at Albizu’s community clinic to individuals across developmental stages, from early childhood through adulthood, serving diverse populations in outpatient settings. My clinical interests include trauma, grief, personality disorders, eating disorders, and issues affecting the Latinx, Deaf, and LGBTQIA+ communities. I take an integrative, trauma-informed, and holistic approach to therapy, rooted in compassion, emotional attune, and cultural sensitivity. My work draws from various models including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy. I strive to create a safe, affirming space where clients can explore their experiences without judgment and reconnect with their values, purpose, and inner strength. I am certified in Puerto Rican Sign Language and still learning about it because it’s a language in constant evolution. I co- founded a student organization whose mission & vision focuses on the wellness and flourishment of mental health and allied workers in Albizu University through the learning and practice of self-care and alternative therapies in recognition of the possible role this can have for themselves and their clients. When I’m not working, I enjoy taking dance classes, being a cat mom, trying new foods, and having coffee daily. I bring creativity, genuineness, and curiosity into my therapeutic relationships, always honoring the identity and story of each person I work with.
