Morgan Ciochina, MA
Doctoral Psychology Extern
Pronouns: She/Her
Hello! My name is Morgan, and I am a Qualified Health Professional student clinician and an outpatient extern. This year marks my third year of my time in the George Fox doctorate of clinical psychology program. Hailing from the South, I value a warm and welcoming approach to others, something I seek to foster in the therapeutic space. I have long desired a career in healthcare, with an underlying motivation of helping walk alongside others as they navigate both victories as well as their most challenging, painful moments. Through my own background as well as through academic and professional pursuits, I have developed specific experience in working with veterans, military-affiliated individuals, refugees, as well as those hailing from spiritual/religious backgrounds. I additionally have clinical experience working with anxiety, depression, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Grounded in the Person-Centered therapeutic framework, my primary approach is one of empathy and active listening, focusing first and foremost on the person across from me in the present, and entering the space with a non-judgmental, compassionate spirit. I am equipped to draw from behaviorism, with experience employing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to effectively address anxiety, phobias, and OCD. At present, I primarily employ a psychodynamic approach, assisting in the exploration of how our early lives, context, and lived experiences influence our present as well as our conceptualization of ourselves and others. Overall, my primary concern is being present, authentic, and actively engaged, with no agenda aside from being here for you.
Presently, I hold a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University. For the past year, I have gained experience working as a Qualified Mental Health Associate in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) specifically geared towards working with anxiety disorders, phobias, and OCD.
Beyond the therapeutic space or school, I enjoy getting to know the PNW, seeking out new cafes, and snuggling my cat. Baking and hosting are some of my favorite pastimes, and curating a cozy, welcoming, and open space for friends is one of my greatest joys. Oftentimes overlapping with my passion for mental health, I have a deep investment in refugee affairs, human rights, and foreign relations.
