Kai McBride, LMFT

Associate Director of IOP

My name is Kai McBride, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years
of experience supporting individuals, children, adolescents, and families in school-based,
outpatient, and community mental health settings. I was drawn to this work by a belief that
people do best when they feel understood and supported, especially during times of stress,
transition, or uncertainty. I value therapy that is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in
respect for each person’s lived experience.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach to therapy is relational, client-centered, and trauma-informed. I draw from
evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, ERP, and systemic approaches, and tailor my
work to each client’s needs, strengths, and lived experience. I value an intersectional lens in
therapy and strive to honor how culture, ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexuality, ability, and
other identities shape how people move through the world and experience mental health. I aim
to create a space where clients feel respected, affirmed, and safe bringing their whole selves
into the work. My goal is to support clients in building practical coping skills, strengthening
self-awareness, and fostering resilience within the broader systems of family, work, school, and
community.

Credentials & Experience

I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology and am licensed as a Marriage and Family
Therapist in Washington, Oregon, and Hawaiʻi. My background includes clinical work across
school-based mental health, outpatient care, and intensive family-focused services, as well as
experience in clinical supervision, staff training, and program development. I’m a
professional member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)
and have completed AAMFT Approved Supervisor Training.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, I enjoy baking, staying active outdoors through hiking, biking, and running,
and spending time with family, friends and my two dogs. I value balance, connection, and finding
small moments of joy both inside and outside the therapy space.
