Bret Jackson
Student Intern for IOP
Pronouns: He, Him, His
My name is Bret Jackson, and I recently completed my Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) from Portland State University. Next week, I’ll begin my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) program there.
I have several years of experience in the behavioral health field, including work as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC I) at CODA, Inc., where I supported individuals navigating substance use and recovery. Most recently, I completed an internship with the Multnomah County Health Department’s Harm Reduction Program, where I worked in a clinical setting.
My Approach to Therapy
My passion for mental health comes from lived experience and seeing the transformative impact of connected, dignified care.
-
I’m drawn to working 1:1 with individuals, creating a space where people feel seen and supported.
-
My therapeutic style is relational and client-centered.
-
I am especially interested in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy, though I remain open and curious about many approaches as a student.
-
I believe therapy should honor a person’s story, values, and pace.
My goal is to build trust, while bringing flexibility and humility, so clients can explore challenges, build on strengths, and move toward a meaningful life.
