A Patient Reaches

Patients long to be received. When we miss a patient’s emotional reach and lack resilience they will feel or experience shame.

As a healthcare provider, one of the most important aspects of our work is to create a safe and welcoming environment for our patients. Patients come to us seeking healing, and they often bring with them a range of emotions, including fear, anxiety, and vulnerability. It is our responsibility to receive these emotions with openness and compassion, and to create a space where patients feel seen, heard, and understood.

When we miss a patient’s emotional reach, it can have a significant impact on their sense of self-worth and their ability to heal. Patients long to be received, to feel that their emotions and experiences are acknowledged and validated. When we fail to do this, they may experience shame or feel that their emotions are not valid or important.

This can have a negative impact on the therapeutic relationship, as patients may begin to feel that they cannot trust us or that we do not understand their needs. In turn, this can lead to a breakdown in communication and a lack of progress in their healing process.

However, when we are able to receive a patient’s emotional reach with resilience and compassion, we can create a space where they feel safe to explore their emotions and work towards healing. We can build trust and rapport, and create a therapeutic relationship that is grounded in mutual respect and understanding.

In summary, patients long to be received with openness and compassion, and it is our responsibility as healthcare providers to create a space where they feel seen, heard, and understood. When we miss a patient’s emotional reach, it can have a negative impact on their healing process, but when we are able to receive their emotions with resilience and compassion, we can create a space for healing and growth.
