Affirm: a verb meaning to state as fact; assert strongly and publicly and to offer (someone) support and encouragement
The Affirm Program was created in response to the demonstrated need for greater collaborative and equitable support of trans/nonbinary communities across Oregon.
Affirm Program Mission
The Affirm Program is committed to fostering mental health care that celebrates, validates, and prioritizes the well-being of trans/nonbinary communities. Rooted in inclusivity, cultural humility, and social justice, the Affirm Program is dedicated to offering tailored community support where trans/nonbinary clients seeking mental health services can trust that their trans/nonbinary clinician is not only knowledgeable and informed about trans/nonbinary identities and needs but also personally invested in providing trauma-informed care to their communities. Guided by and in alignment with Portland Mental Health & Wellness’ Organizational Cultural Principles (OCPs), the Affirm Program strives to create an environment that is equitable, intersectional, collaborative, and empowering.
The Affirm Program offers a supportive space where your mental health needs are acknowledged as a response to societal challenges rather than your trans/nonbinary identity. Here, you are encouraged to be your authentic self. Our providers are personally knowledgeable about gender identity, and we are also eager to understand what makes you uniquely you.
You can select the Affirm Program on our request form and you’ll be matched with an Affirm provider whenever possible.
