Portland Mental Health & Wellness (PMHW) is seeking an experienced, thoughtful Human Resources Manager to lead and strengthen our people operations as we continue to grow. This role is ideal for an HR professional who is both strategic and hands-on—someone who understands systems, values culture, and can support leaders and staff with clarity, care, and accountability.
As the Human Resources Manager, you will oversee core HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compliance, compensation, and benefits. You will partner closely with the HR Director, executive leadership, management, and finance to ensure our people practices are aligned with our mission and operational needs.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
HR Leadership & Strategy
- Lead day-to-day HR operations in partnership with the HR Director
- Support organizational strategy and workforce planning initiatives
- Coach and support managers on people leadership, accountability, and communication
Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment and hiring processes
- Ensure consistent, welcoming, and effective onboarding experiences
- Manage offboarding processes with care, compliance, and clarity
Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and leaders
- Address employee relations concerns, mediate conflicts, and support resolution
- Champion an inclusive, respectful, and values-aligned workplace culture
Compensation, Benefits & Payroll
- Partner with the Controller and HR Director to ensure accurate and compliant payroll administration
- Support compensation and benefits programs and ongoing reviews
- Ensure compliance with wage, hour, and benefits regulations
Training, Development & Performance
- Support training and professional development initiatives
- Oversee performance review processes and goal-setting cycles
- Coach managers through performance conversations and improvement planning
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and documentation
- Lead or support investigations and disciplinary processes as needed
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment law
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment
- Experience applying DEAI principles, anti-racism, and anti-oppression practices
- Systems-thinking mindset with strong organizational skills
- Proficiency with Mac OS and Google Workspace
