Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for Adult Intensive Outpatient Mental Health Program

Location: All locations
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Portland Mental Health & Wellness offers Outpatient Mental Health Services including psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and groups and Intensive Outpatient Programs for adults, with a specific IOP track for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Population

In the Adult Intensive Outpatient Program we see adults who primarily present with acute depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and substance disorders. We see patients with both commercial insurance and Medicaid. All patients are served in our SE Division St. and SW Washington St. locations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct psychiatric patient care within the IOP
  • Assist Director of IOP with hospitalization process for patients in acute crisis, including calling ahead to the hospital and providing clinical to hospital staff
  • Complete psychiatric clinical records for all patient contacts 
  • Assess patients regularly for safety, ADLs, and mental status
  • Communicate with patients’ family members, support systems, and outside providers as needed
  • Treatment planning and regular assessment of patients’ progress, including need for higher or lower level of care, transition plan, and/or discharge planning
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with program staff, to ensure quality continuation of care 
  • Collaborate with Director and program staff to provide accurate clinical information for ongoing utilization reviews 
  • The psychiatrist or PMHNP works with our staff of licensed mental health providers as well as trainees to provide comprehensive mental health care.
  • The psychiatrist or PMHNP collaborates with community partners, colleagues, and patients to provide patient-centered, strengths-based, individualized and tailored care.
  • The psychiatrist or PMHNP would conduct psychiatric evaluations; making diagnoses and prescribing medication to patients in IOP
  • The psychiatrist or PMHNP would conduct initial Assessments & Follows Ups while patients are enrolled in IOP.
  • The psychiatrist or PMHNP  would attend IOP staff meetings (3 days a week/30 minutes a day)
  • Less a responsibility and more a mention of support, the PMHNP role includes a designated support staff for all clerical needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum requirements

  • Licensed to practice in the State of Oregon with full prescriptive authority and DEA certificate in good standing.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in prescriptive capacity with psychologically complex adults in higher levels of care (residential, inpatient, PHP, IOP), community mental health, or outpatient settings
  • Demonstrated competence in assessment, diagnosis, medication evaluation and current, sound prescriptive practices, particularly working with a diverse client population, including clients from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, religious minority clients, clients from communities of color, and sexual minority, transgender and gender non-binary clients
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with staff of diverse backgrounds, training, and levels of experience and to promoting teamwork in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Must be able to see, hear, carry, bend, sit and use a keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to focus in an open office environment which may include direct or indirect interruptions.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to fluorescent lights and computer monitors.

Specific Qualifications:

  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to fluorescent lights and computer monitors.
  • Familiarity with and capacity to strengthen skills for working in a Google Suite environment.
  • Knowledge of general office machines, telephone systems, and other information systems
  • Comfortable working paperless, using and saving files electronically
  • Competent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Maintains a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Follow all guidelines set by HIPAA

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. 

Work Environment: When working from a PMHW office, the position is in a well-lighted office environment. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Mental and Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions.
