Gregory Chance Taylor, PsyD

Post Doctoral Psychologist Resident

Pronouns: He/Him/His

Hi, my name is Gregory Chance Taylor, PsyD. I am a postdoctoral resident at Portland Mental Health & Wellness working under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. I received my bachelor’s degree in 2013 from the New School in New York City, where I studied psychology and philosophy. I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2018 to begin my doctoral training. I received my master’s degree from Pacific University in 2020 and my doctorate in psychology from Pacific University in 2023, after completing a fellowship year training at the Access Institute, a low fee psychoanalytic community clinic in San Francisco.

My past experiences include working in community clinics and college counseling centers where I worked with people struggling with anxiety, depression, interpersonal/family dynamics, self-esteem, identity exploration and development, stress and trauma. I also had the wonderful experience of running a “teen stress management group” for high school students in Portland. My current research is on masculine socialization and particularly the ability of some adolescent boys and young men to resist some of the problematic aspects of rigid conformity to “traditional” models of masculinity.

Clinically, I utilize a contemporary relational psychodynamic lens to explore how individuals may have learned a certain way of being and interacting in the world and how these patterns can sometimes lead a person to feel stuck and uncertain of how to move forward. I will also pull from various therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness, as well as utilizing a feminist and ecological or systems theory lens that focuses on the social/cultural context and power dynamics that inform one’s sense of self and particularly self in-relationship. Beyond therapy I’m interested in exploring nature, hiking, running, climbing, and playing music.
