Susan Montiel-Hernandez, MSW

Clinical Social Work Associate

Pronouns: She, Hers, Ella

Welcome,

I acknowledge that individuals are unique and are experts in their own lives. Therefore, in my practice, I integrate multiple modalities with strength-based approaches—including cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and holistic somatic and mindfulness techniques—to support Individuals in making meaning of their lived experiences, understanding the interactions between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and strengthen the body’s ability to regulate in times of stress.

In my practice, I use systems theory to help individuals navigate depression, anxiety, and life transitions. Trauma and systems of oppression impact how we view and make meaning of our lives, our social identity, and how we relate to others. My approach to patient care incorporates using a humanistic, person-centered lens that relies on collaboration and building trust in the therapeutic relationship. As a clinician, my aim is to make mental health services more accessible to underrepresented communities. I have experience working with individuals, children, youth, and families in child welfare and school systems and offering bilingual, bicultural services to underrepresented LatinX communities.

I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Portland State University.

Clinical Supervisor: Carina Mariscal Diaz, LPC.
