IOP Medical Director

Hours: Part-Time

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Primary Function:

The Part-Time Medical Director is responsible for overseeing and developing the medical services within IOP, and providing weekly supervision/consultation to IOP psychiatric practitioners.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

• Independently licensed psychiatrist to oversee medical management of adult IOP patients
• Facilitate program specific prescriber meetings,  consultations, and collaboration with Outpatient Medical Director for site-wide prescriber meetings
• Create medical policies and procedures
• Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with program staff, as needed, to ensure quality clinical care 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment planning, and engagement of psychiatric services.

• Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins. 
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn practice policies and procedures. 
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn medical terminology associated with specific role
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn basic insurance terminology and procedures associated with providing clinical services within an insurance-based practice.
• Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, for effective and appropriate communication.
• Knowledge of web-based computer programs and applications in an Apple/Mac environment.
• Knowledge of and capacity to strengthen skills for working in Google Workspace.

Abilities:

• Collaborate with IOP Director, Outpatient Medical Director, and program staff to provide accurate clinical information for ongoing utilization reviews 
• Demonstrated competence in assessment, diagnosis, medication evaluation and current, sound prescriptive practices, particularly working with a diverse client population, including clients from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, religious minority clients, clients from communities of color, and sexual minority, transgender and gender non-binary clients
• Maintain a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information and follow all guidelines set by HIPAA
• Engage in ongoing training opportunities provided by Portland Mental Health & Wellness and elsewhere to improve skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, and engagement of psychotherapy and/or psychiatric services that emphasize the mission, vision and values of Portland Mental Health & Wellness.
• Competency in delivering evidence-based medication management
• Competency in delivering supervision for PMHNPs

• Ability to work effectively as a team member, and to communicate clearly, compassionately, and respectfully, with medical and mental health professionals, as well as with administrative support staff.

Education and Experience: Licensed to practice as a Board Certified Psychiatrist in the State of Oregon with full prescriptive authority and DEA certificate in good standing. Minimum 2 years experience working in prescriptive capacity with psychologically complex adults in higher levels of care (residential, inpatient, PHP, IOP), community mental health, or outpatient settings

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. 

Work Environment: When working from a PMHW office, the position is in a well-lighted office environment. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Mental and Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions.
