Portland Mental Health & Wellness is a thriving private practice and training practice with two locations in SE and SW Portland. We are a collaboration of psychologists, psychiatric prescribers, counselors, marriage and family therapists and our trainees. Associate Training Director

Compensation: Base Salary $46,394.40 Plus Flat Rate Commission Compensation Clinical Encounters


Primary Function:

The primary function of the Associate Training Director role is to manage the Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program. The Associate Director also supports the Director generally to operate the Training Department, its trainees, and associated supervisors, as well as the consistent and conscientious delivery of the responsibilities listed in the job description.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one’s training and discipline.
  • Be highly cognizant of their various roles and boundaries.
  • Serve as the liaison between the externship training program and doctoral externs’ graduate programs and are responsible for maintaining communication regarding doctoral externs’ progress and any difficulties.
  • Act as point of contact for trainees, supervisors, and programs for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program related questions
  • Creation, review, and management of Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program related Playbills
  • Coordinate annual didactic schedule, presenters, and room reservation (physical or Zoom) for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Coordinate annual recruitment, application, and hiring procedures (Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program) to include but is not limited to: job postings, establishing hiring committees, creating applicant rating systems, interview day agendas, Zoom coordination for interview days, extending employment offers, etc.
  • Coordinate annual supervisors selection and assignments for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Coordinate with NPC about caseload assignments for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Coordinate with the Practice Manager regarding room assignments, work schedules, credentialing and other legal or insurance requirements for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Coordinate with the Human Resources regarding onboarding and orientation processes for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Coordinate End-of-Term evaluations for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Coordination with individual supervisors regarding any Developmental Action Plan (DAP) activities
  • Liaison with the Oregon Board of Psychology for the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Facilitate exit interviews for Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Ongoing review, analysis, and improvement for the overall health, success, and sustainability of the Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Support to Trainees:
    • Routine one-on-one check-ins with Doctoral Externship Training Program and the Post-Doctoral Residency Program Trainees (Not considered formal clinical supervision and compensation within the Training Director salary.)
    • Weekly group supervision for Doctoral Externship Training Program, (compensated in addition to Training Director Salary).
  • Meeting Participation:
    • Weekly check-in with Practice Director
    • Bi-weekly Licensed Supervision Consult group
    • Bi-weekly Managers & Directors meeting
    • Bi-weeky DEAI meeting
  • Clinical Encounter Expectations: The Associate Training Director is required to complete at least 218 qualifying encounters in a 13 week calendar quarter, which is equivalent to a minimum of 12 encounters per week. This calculation presumes a practitioner is working 11.5 weeks of the 13 week quarter. Practitioners can always choose to complete more than 12 encounters per week, but the minimum expectation is at least 12 completed encounters per week

  • Appropriately and effectively assess and treat behavioral and affective disorders, with an emphasis on relational and process intervention models
  • Assess risk for harm to self or others at intake as well as throughout the course of treatment
  • Maintain current and comprehensive clinical documentation compliant with Oregon Health Authority requirements
  • Coordination of care with multiple providers, both within the practice and at other facilities
  • Welcome and utilize feedback with interest and curiosity from peers, colleagues, managers and directors, as well as in supervision and consultation settings

Abilities: 

  • Provide clinically sound treatment services based on patient needs and treatment plans.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of diagnostic evaluation methods, such as the mental status exams, the LOCUS, CASII, ECSII, Level of Care, CANS, PAI, and additional tools used in diagnosing
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the DSM­ 5.0.
  • Respond to a range of patient needs using differential diagnoses and treatment approaches.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one’s training and discipline.
  • Effectively organize time and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and abide by the regulations set forth by HIPAA.
  • Model through behaviors and attitudes the values that reflect and are consistent with the policies of PMHW.
  • Engage in ongoing training opportunities provided by Portland Mental Health & Wellness and elsewhere to improve skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, and engagement of psychotherapy and/or psychiatric services that emphasize the mission, vision and values of Portland Mental Health & Wellness

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited university.
  • Appropriate board approved supervision agreement or licensing required.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. 

Work Environment: When working from a PMHW office, the position is in a well-lit office environment. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Mental and Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions.
