Psychotherapy with Adults
Pronouns: He, Him, His
I work primarily from an Existential-Humanistic approach. What this means is that I see people holistically and not just as a collection of symptoms. I meet people where they’re at without judgment, I honor their subjective experience as the principal variable to explore, and we utilize the therapeutic relationship as the vehicle of exploration. Through our relationship, we will be able to build a path that will acknowledge both the “in the moment” experiential as well as your history. The content and degree of what we focus on will be led by you as you “tune in” to your level of comfort and safety as we develop our working alliance. As you develop a higher degree of awareness of your subjective self, you will be able to begin noticing patterns and ways of being, as well as noticing parts of yourself that may be dormant. With this higher degree of self-awareness, you’ll be able to make more informed choices as to how to live your life. I serve on the board of directors of Existential-Humanistic Northwest, a nonprofit organization promoting the foundational existential-humanistic values of authenticity, integrity, responsibility, inclusion, and awe. I am also a native Spanish speaker.
I hold a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Portland State University School of Education. Major course work included: Developmental Foundations, Ethical and Legal Issues, Substance Abuse, Theories and Interventions, as well as courses in Couples Marriage and Family Counseling, Grief and Loss, Career and Lifestyle Planning, and Systematic Perspectives on Human Sexuality.
