Brian Farmer, MA
Professional Counselor Associate
Pronouns: He/Him
I’m Brian Farmer, a counselor who believes that helping others is the most meaningful way to live. My education and experience have shaped my understanding that awareness and action are the keys to personal growth. I’m drawn to working with clients who recognize that facing fears and discomfort is an essential part of change. I hold the view that much of human struggle stems from our attempts to escape pain and chase comfort, and that learning to approach both with openness can lead to real freedom.
Therapeutic Approach
My approach to therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with an emphasis on behavioral work and mindfulness. I frequently incorporate techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and related cognitive approaches. My style is energetic, optimistic, and focused on helping clients take meaningful steps toward their goals. This approach is effective not only for anxiety and fear-based conditions, but also for depression, inertia, and periods of uncertainty or transition. My goal is to help clients become more aware of their thoughts and behaviors while building the confidence to live in alignment with their values.
Credentials & Experience
I hold a Master of Arts in Applied Clinical Psychology from Pacific University and completed my practicum at Collective Care Clinic in Portland, where I worked with clients struggling with anxiety and OCD. Before that, I spent three years as a Qualified Mental Health Associate providing skills training and medication support for individuals with high-acuity needs, including those managing bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum conditions, and substance use challenges.
Outside the Office
Outside of work, I spend as much time outdoors as I can, whether that means hiking, walking, or playing basketball. On quiet days, I enjoy reading or gaming at home with my two cats, Toast and Nugget. I’m a lifelong fan of music, especially EDM, and an avid Warhammer hobbyist who enjoys both the tabletop and the universe it’s built around.
