About Me
¡Hola! My name is María Isabel, and I’m a bilingual Puerto Rican Postdoctoral Psychology Resident. My clinical training has included work with individuals across the lifespan and in diverse settings. I pursued a career in mental health through a deep interest in the human condition and in understanding the ways we can individually and collectively cultivate healthier and more harmonious lives. I am passionate about the liberation of mental health and understanding the ways social, cultural, and systemic factors shape emotional wellbeing. Looking ahead, I hope to continue supporting my community not only through clinical work, but also through advocacy and public policy efforts.
Therapeutic Approach
I believe wellbeing looks different for everyone, and that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy. My work is grounded in a humanistic, trauma-informed, non-pathologizing, and collaborative stance. I strive to create a safe, affirming, and inclusive space where you can slow down and connect with your authenticity to navigate the complexities of being human with more grace.
I draw primarily from a relational psychodynamic framework, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. I also integrate holistic and eco-psychology perspectives when appropriate and continue expanding my therapeutic approach through ongoing learning and reflection.
Credentials & Experience
I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ponce Health Sciences University, with specialized training in health psychology. My clinical training has included experience in community mental health, integrated primary care, and psycho-oncology, as well as specialized training in fear and anxiety-related concerns. I’m currently a licensed psychologist in Puerto Rico and pursuing licensure here in Oregon.
Outside the Office
I love spending time with my husband, my son, and my cat. I also enjoy playing volleyball, hiking, and connecting with Oregon’s natural beauty, which reminds me of my beloved homeland Puerto Rico.
