Hello! My name is Caryn Zaner and I am an anticipated resident psychologist at Portland Mental Health and Wellness under the supervision of Dr. Jordan Hendrickson, Psy.D.
I will be receiving my doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University in August 2020 and will spend the next year training at Portland Mental Health and Wellness, fulfilling my requirements to be a licensed psychotherapist. I began my mental health career working with individuals with severe mental illness in community mental health settings and received my pre-doctoral training at public and private universities in Oregon and California. I have experience working with the LGBTQIA2S+ population, and as a queer clinician, I can offer an understanding environment for clients to explore themes of sexuality and gender in the context of historical and modern queerness. Other clients I have worked with include: individuals with disabilities, those impacted by socio-political issues, and clients from various faith backgrounds. My overall approach acknowledges the difficulties life throws our way, and attempts to balance the desire for change with the acceptance that not everything is in our control. Clients often come to therapy when they feel powerless or stuck, and are looking to better understand themselves, how they interact with their world, and to achieve a more fulfilling life. I assist clients in this journey with a collaborative and interpersonal approach where the client can explore their feelings and values.
