Portland Mental Health & Wellness is a thriving private practice and training practice with three locations in NE, SE, and SW Portland. We are a collaboration of psychologists, psychiatric prescribers, counselors, marriage and family therapists and our trainees. Associate Therapist for Intensive Outpatient Program

$2000 Signing Bonus

Position: Associate IOP Therapist

Location: IOP is Currently Online Only

Supervisor: Director of Intensive Outpatient Programs

Hours: 35 Hours

Compensation$51,000.00 plus estimated commission from individual outpatient work $14,400.00 and profit sharing.

Job Summary:

  • Pre-licensed clinician (QMHP) to provide evidence-based group, individual, and family therapy to adults in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Therapist will assist patients using best practices of group counseling techniques. 
  • Present for IOP programming and associated staff meetings (3 days a week/4 hours a day), along with an individual caseload of 9 patients (21 clinical contact hours per week)

Essential Responsibilities: 

Performance Requirements

  • Provide group and individual therapy
  • Provide family/relationship therapy
  • Assess patients regularly (everyday in IOP) for safety, ADLs, and mental status
  • Treatment planning and regular assessment of patients’ progress, including need for higher or lower level of care, transition plan, and/or discharge planning
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with program psychiatrist and staff, to ensure quality continuation of care 
  • Engage in ongoing training and education in best practices within IOP programs


  • Understanding and compliance with state laws and regulations, as well as the ethics code for your profession
  • Competency in clinical documentation (initial treatment plans/updates, progress notes, discharges)
  • Group therapy dynamics and IOP curriculum (largely CBT, DBT, ACT)
  • Follow all guidelines set by HIPAA
  • Knowledge of general office machines, telephone systems, and other information systems


  • Competency in delivering evidence-based group and individual therapy
  • Skills in de-escalation strategies
  • Develop creative program material and curriculum and adjust group therapy content to fit group needs
  • Communicate with patients’ family members, support systems, and outside providers as needed
  • Competent organizational and time management skills


  • Collaborate with Director and program staff to provide accurate clinical information for ongoing utilization reviews 
  • Support Director in planning, scheduling, and implementing curriculum
  • Familiarity with and capacity to strengthen skills for working in a Google Suite environment.
  • Comfortable working paperless, using and saving files electronically
  • Must be able to see, hear, carry, bend, sit and use a keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to focus in an open office environment which may include direct or indirect interruptions.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to fluorescent lights and computer monitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


  • Registered as a QMHP in the State of Oregon, LCSW, LPC, or LMFT 
  • Experience working with adults in higher levels of care (residential, inpatient, PHP, IOP), community mental health, or outpatient settings

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. 

Work Environment: When working from a PMHW office, the position is in a well-lighted office environment. Varied activities including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting.

Mental and Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions.
