Portland Mental Health & Wellness is a thriving private practice and training practice with three locations in NE, SE, and SW Portland. We are a collaboration of psychologists, psychiatric prescribers, counselors and our trainees. We emphasize a focus on relating with the person first and foremost and addressing diagnosis and treatment from within the relationship.

We strongly emphasize trauma informed care, cultural competency, establishing comfort and safety for patients, and coordination of care with primary care doctors, specialists, pediatricians, schools, and other mental health clinicians.


  • Full time – 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform primary and secondary insurance claim submission via electronic or paper billing at least once per week
  • Read and interpret insurance explanation of benefits (EOBs)
  • Maintain relationship with clearinghouse, including appropriate follow-up with support issues
  • Track claim payments and resolve rejected claim issues by re-submitting claims or contacting appropriate insurance departments
  • Draft effective appeals to insurance companies
  • Accurate posting of all insurance payments, patient payments, and approved write-offs in our Electronic Health Record system
  • Utilize monthly/quarterly aging accounts receivable reports to follow up on unpaid claims or patient payments
  • Generate patient billing statements once a month
  • Process daily payments for patient accounts
  • Communicate with patients who have questions about their statements or insurance benefits
  • Regularly meet with Practice Owner to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles
  • Maintain working knowledge of state and federal billing guidelines
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines in handling patient information
  • Other billing related tasks as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years experience in medical/mental health billing environment (need to be able to “hit the ground running”)
  • Working knowledge of Insurance Coordination of Benefits
  • Working knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid and commercial insurance
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite (sheets, docs, and slides) and EHR systems
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 CPT billing codes for mental health
  • Problem solving, detail oriented, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently


  • $21.00 per hour to start
